CHANGE is inevitable and change was the theme of the recent Effie Awards 2015. This year, the awards ceremony jointly organised by the Malaysian Advertisers Association (MAA), Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia (4As) and Media Specialists Association (MSA), in association with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) was held at the One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya.
A gala dinner feted the crème de la crème of Malaysian advertisers, paying tribute to the award winners for their effectiveness in marketing communications, spotlighting marketing ideas that work and encouraging thoughtful dialogue on the drivers of marketing effectiveness.
The theme “Change” was conceived to elevate the Malaysia Effie Awards to uphold its standards and keep at par with global benchmarks.
TO FIRSTS AND MANY MORE
Some of the firsts for this year’s awards included digital submissions, the reason for the 60% rise in the number of entries compared with the year before. Other new developments include the introduction of seven new award categories, with four categories redefined.
There were also two new recognition awards, namely the “Brand of the Year” and “Agency of the Year”.
Judging rounds were also increased to two rounds, to ensure optimal standards were maintained throughout the assessment procedure.
“We are confident these changes will encourage more effective marketing campaigns in future and propel local brands to the forefront of the international arena, generating awareness for great ideas that are realised,” said MAA president Margaret Au-Yong.
Guests at this year’s awards ceremony were in fact able to make a change through the “Change for Charity” initiative the event correlated with.
The concept encouraged each guest to donate one meal to help feed over 500 needy mouths in the Klang Valley. The initiative was said to be the brainchild of a partnership between MAA and Kita Kawan Mah.
